possibly better alternate ending

Every time I watch this movie I think that in the end, Bernie will be alive. (I usually don't watch it through to the end and then after a few years I forget the ending.) I think the whole movie would be better (i.e. in the less morbid sense) if Bernie were not actually dead. Death and comedy are just incongruent. They never explained what was in the syringe that killed Bernie. They could have easily revealed in the end that this substance did not kill Bernie, but just slowed his heartrate and breathing and rendered him unconscious for a few days. Bernie could still get in trouble (but not die) for his misconduct.

like he knows about the hit on him, so he takes a made for the movie drug that will make him appear dead. He takes more then he should have and so he is in a dead like state for a few days.

He would have sustained enough injuries to have died several times while being mishandled by Richard and Larry, making them responsible for Bernie's death instead. Get M. Night Shyamalan on the phone. What a twist!

First of all, no.

Secondly, that's not what 'incongruent' means. You probably mean 'incompatible' or something, but there have been lots of jokes made about death, it's fine. Death is nothing to be scared about, it's no different than any other part of a bodily human experience.
