Indeed it is and he was. I saw this at the National Film Theatre in the UK as part of a Fellini Festival.
In all my years of NFT membership, that's the only film I've seen applauded at the end. That was fourteen years after release, so a classic for some, even if not all.
I would love to get a DVD of this.

And what is not "perfect" about it??? On first viewing I really could not quite get it, but on second viewing I thought the film is amazing. I can't think of a single scene that fails the whole.

Not perfect? the film is absolutely dreadful and a sorry final film for a master like Fellini.
