What happened to Marquise de Merteuil in the end???

~ I've seen this movie but not completely. I missed the end. So I was wondering what happeneds to Marquise de Merteuil? I hope she got what she deserved. She was such a bitch.

Cecile marries the Marquise's lover (Jeffery Jones), while she is already pregnant with Valmont's baby. In the movie, Valmont, you can see that the Marquise genuinely cared for her lover. I think Valmont was just a game to her, and to Valmont, she was a conquest or prize. Im not sure either one cared for each other, more of a game. She never got the public humiliation like in Dangerous Liasions, or Cruel Intentions. It was mostly, an internal comeuppance. Just my take on the movie, Valmont.

the Marquise in the novel gets the pox and does get her comeuppance in a very cruel way. Neither movie version shows this. the Marquise in Valmont was IMHO much more evil and vicious than Valmont. He was probably evil but I saw more compassion in his charater. In the course of the movie he really wanted to call a truce as he did have feelings for her and he wanted to stop the maddness.

At the end, her face seems to be very brutal, annoyed but also worried and miserable. I think she noticed that she got nothing in her hands after all of her struggle. In fact, I got worried for Merteuil:) She lost everything. Because, the only character who notices that sex is destroying everything although nobody gan give up it, is Merteuil. she is such a philosophical character.
