Just like Cruel Intentions..

In fact I believe that Cruel Intentions was derrived from it. I apologize if anyone else has made a similar post...but here is my thing with it.

Annette Bening plays same character as Sarah Michelle Gellar
Colin Firth plays same role as Ryan Phillipe
Fairuza Balk plays same role as Selma Blair (coincidence they have the same name?)
Meg Tilly plays same role as Reese Witherspoon...

The whole plot is the same....Bening is mad that her lover (played by Jeffrey Jones and in C.I. Gellars lover is this guy named Court that we never see) has a thing with Cecile....she then gets Valmont to devirginize Cecile (in which Sebastian does in C.I. by Phillipe to Selma Blair...whose last name in the movie is also Valmont..) but the two con artists have a bet going on between the two of who will sleep with the other women in question (In Valmont: Meg Tilly...in Cruel Intentions...Reese Witherspoon.

Both Valmont characters from both movies end up screwing everything up b/c they sleep with the one they were betting on...all the while devirginizing innocent girls just for the fun of it.....

The stories are too parallel and its humorous :) If it was meant to be that way than thats awesome...if not....too weird.

Yeah I am rambling....just offering my input..LoL

Cruel Intentions and Valmont are based on the same book, Dangerous Liasons. There have been many adaptations of it on film. Cruel Intentions is just a modern version of it.

reply

I didn't know that...didn't even know there was a book on it. Thanks for telling me :) I may buy it to read!

both movies were well done.

reply

yes, they are based on the same story. Annette and Sarah Michelle both played their roles very well, but of course Sarah Michelle was more convincing as a manipulating bitch!! Lol

HeathBaby..Forever you shall be remembered. Sleep Well Love...

reply

You may want to check out the movie "Dangerous Liaisons" as well, starring Glenn Close and John Malkovich...also based on the same play...which in turn is based on the book.

reply

Gee...so, is this like the "stupid & ignorant kids who know nothing about movies and want everybody to know about it" thread? kewl guys...here's my two cents I have reasons to believe "Father of the bride" with Steve Martin and...oh God I can't remember its name...oh, yeah: "Father of the bride" with Spencer Tracy are really similar, the characters played by Martin and Tracy are very very similar, and so are the ones played by Kimberly Williams and Elizabeth Taylor...would that be on purpose? Oh my God, Oh my God...what if...? This is like a total breakthrough, dontcha think guys? And do you also think Rocky I, II, III...etc would have something in common due to coincidence? Gee...that's a tough one right?

GEEZ!!!

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I,ll be over here looking through your stuff.

reply

Yep.

reply

damn wasn't trying to be ignorant. I had never seen dangerous liasians and hadn't seen cruel intentions in a while so wheN I watched Valmont, it just hit me they were connected somehow. Doesn't make me an "ignorant kid" (which I am not a kid if you gave a damn)...so how about instead of being rude and ridiculous, just agree or not even comment. Just making an observation. I could easily make assumptions about you but that would be moot point.

Mrs. Lovett you're a bloody wonder!

reply

angylcourt

just ignore the silliness.

Good observation on your part.

reply

Yeah don't worry about the rude people,
I had the same reaction when I read Jane Austen's Emma, and compared it to my childhood love Clueless :P

reply

thank you :)

Mrs. Lovett you're a bloody wonder!

reply

There's even a Chinese version.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

reply

how can you forget to mention the Father of the Bride sequel--> "Father's Little Dividend"? GEEZ forgot old movies.

reply

Aw, cut the poor girl a break. lol

Hey, at least she's watching Valmont. Plus aware enough to see the similarities. That's more than I give a lot of kids credit for these days.

reply

There's also a French version, Les Liasions Dangerouse 1960, starring Jeanne Moreau. I believe it was directed by Roger Vadim, who later was Jane Fonda's first husband. Michael Lucas has also made a gay porno version set in the modern Fashion District of New York.

reply

All in, there have been no less than twelve, count 'em, TWELVE small and big screen adaptations of the novel Les liaisons dangereuses, including one in Japanese, one in Korean and one in German, in addition to the more expected English and French language productions.
