Spoiler-Greatest Made For TV Movie Of All Time???

I think this may have been one of the greatest "Made for TV" movies of all time. I watched it the first time it aired and have been looking for it to be replayed ever since. As far as I know it's never been on again and I can't understand why. There are so many parallels between certain situations in Unconquered and Forrest Gump that the later must have been influenced by the former.
It's a great sports film, coming of age film, civil rights film, father son relationship film, that also shines a light on the plight of people with disabilities. I wish I had put a tape in the VCR the night I saw it.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I saw this movie too when it first came on TV & I've never seen it replayed again... although I've wanted to see it many times. If only I had known.
This IS a great movie, good story, good acting & one of Peter Coyote's best performances.

I pray that this will repeat someday....

Amen! Thanks for the reply. I guess all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.

Although I haven't seen this movie since it originally aired and don't remember the details well enough to call it the greatest TV movie of all time, I recall feeling very moved by it. I remember thinking of it as a kind of epic, historical, meaningful story. I also initially thought of Forrest Gump in relation to this film. I'd definitely like to see it again.

Thank you, I'm hoping that the folks at ESPN Classic will pick it for their Sunday night movie at some point. "Epic, meaningful and historic", really sum it up for me too. Thanks again for the reply.

I really enjoyed this movie as well. They played it on Martin Luther King Jr. day. Fortunately, I had the foresight to record it. But, it would be nice to see it distributed on DVD and replayed on TV.

It is a beautiful, beautiful movie. Like most of you, I still remember it, and I saw it in my early teens. Dermot Mulroney, and Jenny Robertson in particular are unforgettable in this.

I loved this, but I was only a kid and only have the vaguest memories of it, not even remembering the name. In fact, from time to time I would try to figure out what the movie was. A couple of years ago I was writing a paper about Pat Conroy and came here to check his credits, and knew INSTANTLY this was the movie I remembered so fondly. I would buy it instantly if it would come out on DVD.

I too would time to time try to figure out what movie it was. Every so often it'd pop in my head and I'd give it a shot. I'd sure like to see it again!

Does anybody else here see a similarity between Frank Whaley's Arnie and Sal Mineo's Plato in Rebel Without a Cause? That movie also had a two guy/one girl friendship.

Can you make me a copy of it on tape or dvd? I will pay you. Please let me know.

I see that in another post somebody listed a site where it can be purchased.
