Weird Al was ahead of his time

His channel was insanely popular and at the same time, filled with crap. And today, that is exactly what is happening, with relatively few exceptions.

There's very little about neutrality that's admirable. ---bunstermash

I'll have to agree here... Or in other words, TV sucks...

Exactly. I'm not hooked up on any tv channel whatsoever. Can't watch any tv in my apartment. I've got my videotapes and my dvd's. I'd rather watch a movie any day than all the crap that's on tv! (and if tv actually broadcasts something good, it's possible for friends to record it for me on dvd or tape.)

I don't give a *beep* what people say. "How can you live without tv?" it's easy... watch me... I've lived in my apartment for 4 years now!!

I remember when I still lived with my mom (I'm 24). Most evenings were spent in front of the tv with a remote control.... going through the channels... over and over again.... just to see if something good was on.... there usually wasn't.... tv is a good invention, but just like radio, most of it today is just lousy *beep* I really think that it lowers some people's intelligence. People who start to cry if they miss one episode of some *beep* reality program... get a grip you retards!!!

I agree... I dont watch tv anymore, unless its a movie. Half the movies that I like, I usually own anyway, lol.

Expect nothing, and you'll never be dissapointed

".. tv is a good invention"

This is the core point of many things in this world that have shocked me to the.. well, core.

So many STRUCTURES and systems-in-place are very good, even well-engineered, well-thought-out and excellent. But what people DO with those systems is absolutely crazy or absolute garbage.

We once discussed with a friend (who has since travelled to the astral side), what would it take to make this world good and fix the problems.

After some discussion, I realized that my friend's point was the correct one. This world itself wouldn't be so bad - there are many really good things about it, when it comes to technology and all kinds of structures and inventions - but it's the PEOPLE that suck.

(Of course there being a corporate-military-industrial-complex with a population-controlling and brainwashing-agenda isn't helping)

I realized based on that discussion, that almost ANY ideology or 'social-political system' would work with GOOD people, and almost ANY such system will always eventually fail with BAD people. Communism would work with good people, because no one would LET anyone starve, or let the government get so much power and control over everyone (the people in the government would be GOOD people, remember?).

Capitalism, Socialism, some mixture of these - or some new, more Utopian system - anything and everything would work with good people, and all of these would eventually become a horror story with bad people, because the power-hungry and greedy, evil and manipulative monsters would always rise positions of power and start controlling the masses for more power and wealth until people live in dystopia.

I pasted the rest here, because it's too exhausting to try to combat the word limit here (which IMDb never had):

I know this is a relatively old topic, but yeah, we had a bunch of reality TV shows that kept cropping up over the years. Nowadays, there's YouTube and streaming services such as Netflix churning out crap as well.

Weird Al really did have a vision of what future television (and the like) would turn out to be. It's one of the reasons why I love this movie.

I vaguely remember UHF coming out (Ultra High Frequency?) which signaled some low-rent channels getting a chance to do their thing. Don't think I've actually seem the movie, but I recall it had some cache back when it was new. DIY type stuff.
