Why can't they make good parody movies like this anymore?

Instead of garbage like "Epic Movie", "Date Movie", "Meet The Spartans" and "Disaster Movie".

"Oh wow, good Nyborg"

Because they are desperate for money

If they know that they can make money like you said they will do it for the hell of it to become rich.

"Because they are desperate for money"

Desperate? They have billions and billions of dollars. Why would -they- of all people be 'desperate' for money? I think you find actual desperation for money in underdeveloped countries. Go to south-east Asia or the continent of Africa to find actually desperate people.

No, that's not the reason.

It's partially about money, though, so you are not too far off.

The reason is that they want to make -sure- they get even more money. It's not like they would make a movie just to make a good movie, regardless of whether it brings a 'profit' or not.

They rather make a really crappy movie, that brings them lots of money without any risk, than a really good movie, taking a very tiny risk.

The creators, artists, creative people, and people with good ideas, are not the ones controlling what gets made, and what doesn't. The people with enormous amounts of money are the ones that make all the important decisions. They finance it, so they get to have a say in everything.

Another reason is that they want to push a politically-correct agenda, a bunch of lies and falsehoods in every area of entertainment, so that people will effectively be slowly brainwashed.

That's also the other reason why they are doing so many remakes; the plan is to replace the good, creative and inspiring works with dull, banal and lifeless propaganda pieces for the agenda, so that whenever someone thinks about 'Robocop', they think about the -new- one, not the old one. They want to bury the good, old movies under the new garbage movies, so that in the global consciousness, soon only the 'garbage' versions exist. No one will remember the good '70s or '80s movies after a few generations.

The stupidest thing about all this is .. that a good movie will always be watched, and it will always be a hit, even if that means a 'cult hit' after the box office.

If they only focused on making movies as good as possible, regardless of all the other factors, or at least diminishing the effect of everything else to a bare minimum, they would still make enormous amounts of money.

But these hollyweird agenda-driven weirdo-elitists have all the money in the world already, so it's mostly not about money anymore. Sure, they want to get their money back and then a nice 'profit' from every movie, but surely such rich bastards could afford to take at least tiny risks when making movies, instead of using tired formulas that work because of the stupidity of the masses.

There are so many interesting stories in books, comics and creative people's minds that will never be seen in movies. Instead, we just see rehashes, remakes, reboots and tired, old formula number 1,2 and 15 used over and over again, and if there is an 'original' movie allowed, it's some crappy 'injected romance' thing or a movie that doesn't say anything that might provoke people to actually think. It's like good movies are NOT ALLOWED.

good point and i agree with the previous poster. lately it's just the profit of the movie that matters. you can tell these people had fun making this movie and it was original..unlike the crap that they call parody these days. that's why you skip the new crap and stick to the oldies.

I love the Internet.

Please learn to use proper punctuation and the usage of the 'SHIFT' key. And please don't post from your phones, that's just insulting to the readers.

Use a proper keyboard, if you want to prove that modern generations can be just as sophisticated a movie audience and discussion contributors as the older generations have been in the past.

In any case, a movie like UHF could still be made. It's just that hollyweird wouldn't greenlight it.

Someone like Weird Al could still make this kind of a movie - the budget for this was five million dollars, but I am sure most of this stuff wouldn't require that much money. If there was a large enough a group that is -dedicated- to making good movies, they can make this in their spare time, and not require a salary. Just look at movies like 'Bad Taste', where a very interesting, intriquing and original, funny and entertaining movie was created with a budget of 11 000. That's eleven thousand!

With some kind of investor that wants to see good movies (surely there must be -someone- out there with some kind of money that wants to see good movies be made), and enough talent and a dedicated group, I am sure a movie like this could be made, at least technically speaking.

The problem is that the movie wouldn't have hollyweird marketing machine, but maybe the grapevine would be enough, who knows. Perhaps such a movie is being made right now!

Oh well, there are still other planets and dimensions. If they never make a good movie in this world, I am sure they keep making them elsewhere, so there's always hope.

Oh, it's pretty simple. All people want to see anymore is as much profanity, crudeness, and sexual innunendo as possible. We can't go around exposing our teenagers to actual creative humor, now could we?

I rather liked Baines. We shared the same bootmaker.

"All people want to see anymore is as much profanity, crudeness, and sexual innunendo as possible. "

No.

That's not what the audiences want - that's what they've been FORCE-FED so long that it has become the norm. You also forgot zombies and vampires, which are now 'cool' for some reason that I never understood.

Even the awful dictator warmongers in the past have stated things like.. "By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise."

And this is -exactly- what has been done, and what has happened. People see heaven (the great 1980s movies, for example) as something awful, and this 'extremely wretched life' they show in modern movies, as 'paradise', as something cool and great.

I can't even watch modern movies because of one reason - they're just too colorless, too gloomy, too dark, too depressing. The natural colors of the eighties are gone, and modern movies always have this 'toned-down' or 'heavily filtered'-look. It's awful to my eyes, and it tears my soul apart.

If the movies were good in every other way, I'd find a way to endure them somehow - but since they're also so awful in every other area, adding this is like a final nail in the coffin - I rather not watch movies, or watch only the ones that I know aren't going to depress me with their visuals.

I never understood why people like (let alone love) horror movies - isn't daily life horrible enough? Do you really need to add more horrible things to your life? I like things that uplift me, cultivate the spirit, inspire me, give me escapism, make me think, etc. Modern movies have -none- of that.

Hey, remember this movie from six months ago? Okay, you didn't see it but you saw the preview, right? Well here's a scene from that preview done in exactly the same way except we've added fart noises. You will now laugh and give us money.

"Are you in the army?"
"No man, I just have short hair."

reply

They don't even add fart noises. There's no actual jokes in those movies. Just a montage of things we recognize as things.

UHF is childish brilliance. Or brilliant childishness. Whatever.

There's no justice. There's just me.

reply

Personally I think that the Jared Hess movies (Napolean Dynamite, Nacho Libre, Gentleman Broncos) are the closest comparison to movies today that are similar in caliber to UHF. UHF still being better than the former of course.

Because those movies don't have characters or a story you can give a crap about (and their gags aren't smart-dumb gags, just dumb-dumb gags).

For me Airplane! will always be the greatest parody film. Followed by Mel Brooks films and of course this.

Edit: And the Naked Gun, can't forget that (even though I did).

An interesting thing about some comedy-type things; sometimes you are still on the edge of your seat even though it's a comedy.

For example, 'Get Smart' pulled off this type of mix very nicely. You cared for the characters, you were scared and worried for them when they got in difficult situations, and relieved, when they escaped or when a satisfactory conclusion happened.

You laughed your buttockses off while watching them, but they still managed to convey the feel of 'serious danger'. Modern movies don't make me laugh -or- convey this. They just like to show buildings being blown up, and expect me to care for some reason.

Maxwell being captured by the enemy is way more interesting a situation for the audience than some anonymous building being demolished by some monster.
