It's an evil entity, not a lunatic entity. When the things it want to happen start to happen, what reason would it have to go crazy? It's a manipulative force, indirect and alluring, it's the human choice whether to go its way or not that makes it so valuable.
It's not a violent type entity that attacks directly; it's more like a tester that punishes humanity for its wrong choices and seduces people indirectly. It can give you a lot of power, you just have to contract to give it something it wants (your soul).
It's also a moral-spiritual construct to make the choice between good and evil more concrete and easier to understand.
Going 'crazy' doesn't really enter into it, so it's only logical that it wouldn't. It enjoys making humans go crazy, it doesn't have to go crazy itself.
