Why did they kill him!?!?

Why!? Why!? It just ruins the movie damnit!!! There was absolutely no need to kill him, NONE! Why not let Hanks die? Noooooo, let's kill the pup, ugh.

But I'm also a pussy.

JUST WATCH K-9 INSTEAD.IT'S A BETTER MOVIE ANYWAY WITH A WAY COOLER LOOKING DOG,AND AT LEAST THE DOG LIVES AFTER HE GETS SHOT.

reply

K-9 is objectively a worse movie.

I'm an animal lover (owned dogs all my life, in later years usually at least 2 all the time, never bought one, have always rescued them from the SPCA). In my opinion, if they didn't (ohhh so sadly have Hooch die in the end) the whole point of the movie would be lost. Tom Hanks character has always been an OCD life, one of being alone and unattached to anyone. Never owning a dog himself, then being the sudden owner of this supposedly mean terrifying dog, that is completely opposite himself and totaling turns his ever so "perfectly clean & tidy" life upside down, the death brought him full circle in binding with Hooch and also his love life with his Vet wife. All of this is totally strange to him, although I cry like a baby when any animal is hurt or killed in life or movies, the character just wouldn't be fufilled if Hooch lived, nor would it leave room for a perfect sequel.

wow.. thanks kermit.. this has probably been here FOREVER.. but I said almost the EXACT same thing in another threat JUST now.

what did you want? another movie with a happy ending that doesnt make you think about it ??

reply

I think that Hooch's death makes the film a lot more powerful. Hanks acts his *ss off in that scene and that's what makes it so sad. Hooch's death seemingly affects Turner's as much as losing a human partner would (although Hanks would later top this by sobbing like a baby over a volley ball lol). It was the perfect way for their relationship to culminate.

To be fair, Wilson WAS the closest thing he had to a friend for 4 years.

If you really sit back and look at it, this is a buddy cop movie. Turner is the orderly Murtaugh type character, Hooch is the wild and crazy Riggs type character.

Both Tom Hanks and the director regret the decision if it makes you feel better. Seen a few clips where they admit it wasn't the best decision.

Writing 101. You need to take it because yes, there was a very good reason for it.

I thought that Hanks played that distraught scene on losing Hooch very well. But normally I don't like to see pet deaths and animal deaths generally in movies. It seems as though film-makers like to use animals in that way for their stories. I wonder what people would think if movie people used children in that way to continually bring pathos to their stories?

Perfect Ending

Snooty,Snobby young guy, and hook him up with a dog like thAT for a week or so and he loves the mut so much, He cries when the dog dies for him
