badly written and directed although acted excellently, the last scene in particular and realising how he was shot cheapens and demeans his suffering, as if any soldier would have done that in the middle of blazing warfare in enemy territory

I think that scene was probably exactly what happened and therefore, since this movie was based on the real Robert Lawrence, it had to be included. I don't think it cheapens his suffering either, I think it makes it sadder. He obviously snapped in the middle of the battle, probably from psychological trauma.
shareI agree. After all, it is based on truth, and it is well known about Lawrence that he wanted to be a warrior soldier. Thus, the final scene shows the naivety of such a thing.
