So they couldn't say Girl Scouts?

And this is not just a question for this film but for other movies and shows as well that have Girl scout like troups but call them other names. Is there a reason why they can't say Girl Scouts?

Love Les Miserables!!!

It's probably trademarked. They'd have to pay the GS for usage, and they'd probably want a say in how they're portrayed.

I can't imagine the GS being all that vocal on how they are portrayed, they are pretty liberal with the variations they allow in real life.

There could be any number of reasons why they chose a generic troop name over the more recognized "Girl Scouts."

1. They didn't want to pay the licensing fee.

2. They didn't think the Girl Scouts would support showing one of the troop leaders cheating and putting another troop in danger to serve her own vendetta.

3. They talked to the Girl Scout people and were turned down for one reason, or another.

4. They decided, independently, that they wanted to depict a DIFFERENT scouting organization (there are others besides the Girl Scouts).

5. Any combination of 1-5.

We'll never know which it is -- just that the writers/producers chose to create their own organization, over using the name and logo of the country's most famous female scouting organization.

Yeah.

It happens w hollywood all the time. Look @ other movies TV shows they're called 'Robins' (American Dreams)....etc but it's pretty obvious what/who they're supposed to be

Yes there are other scouting orgs. But Girl Scouts are the most well known.

The addictive site called TV Tropes has a trope called "Scout-out", about movies and shows using different names for boy and girl scouts.
