People were ematiated in the camps; yet, they are almost plump in this film. The Nazis look thinner! Even Wm DaFoe is heavier here than he looks now. The film is 20 years old, so maybe I wouldn't have been so distracted by the lack of realism if I had seen it when it was made.

The well-organised prisoner didn't really starve. In the film you have mostly a guy who is fed to fight and a Gypsy Kapo, what do you except, some Muselmanner?

The people in this film really weren't all that emaciated. The filmmakers seemed to try and deal with that fact by showing the absolute hunger of the prisoners when they would share bits of very-hard-to-get food. For more realism, see Schindler's List.
shareCome on, you want the actors and actresses to starve themselves so the movie looks more real to you? Special affects can give people scars, and let people get shot, but in 1989 it wasn't possible to make somebody extremely skinny. Maybe we can do it now with CGI kind of like in Captain America, but in 1989 the only way to do it was to make people stop eating.

shareI totally agree ... all through the movie I kept thinking the actors looked way too healthy. I think movies have gotten so much better in recent years at this ... which makes it all so much more believable.
