Dean Koontz Influence?

I remember reading a Dean Koontz novel years ago about a couple who was stuck in an ice bound high-rise office building with a maniac and wondered if this movie was "inspired" by that novel's premise?

No I don't believe so but there was also a made-for-TV movie based on that novel. I've read the book but haven't seen the film. They were both called The Face Of Fear.

sixpackrt, perhaps you should refresh your memory of the basic premise of Dean Koontz's novel. There is no doubt both stories are similar.

Below is an excerpt from Amazon.com's review:

Amazon.com Review
You and your friend Sarah are being chased by a homicidal maniac through an office building in the middle of the night. You take refuge in an empty office like frightened cockroaches, but the doors are forced open, revealing your antenna-quivering vulnerability. In desperation, you scramble up and down elevator shafts with one lame leg dangling helplessly behind, and try other life-threatening feats that seem to be more appealing than getting an ice-pick through your skull.
The most horrifying thing about this scenario: the person chasing you is not a disgruntled co-worker, and it's not your boss! It's a notoriously murderous rapist, and he's just about to get you or Sarah every turn of the way. And then you remember the terror of falling while climbing Mount Everest and you think you've figured out how to escape... but have you? You still haven't figured out who will be crushed by the monster snow-plow!

Oh certainly both stories are similar. I'm just saying that Koontzs' novel was not the source for Trapped nor was it likely inspired by The Face Of Fear (which was not a very successful or notable novel for Koontz done rather early in his career-in fact originally published under a pseudonym if I remember correctly). There are other films of this sort as well (see Lower Level if you like these sorts of stories). Most people see these sorts of movies as by-the-numbers potboilers, very high-concept. But I love them. I wasn't trying to be snooty or anything but I have followed Trapped for many years and collected all the information I could on the film and while the plot is similar I just know there is no direct connection. That's all. Now if you want to really see a movie that probably was inspired by a Koontz novel (despite the fact no credit is given) read Intensity then watch High Tension.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look for it on You-Tube. :-)

On another note, I just watched The Face Of Fear movie on youtube a couple weeks ago so if you haven't seen it it's up. Pretty good but it was a TV movie so you know...
