I bought this movie a few weeks ago having high hopes for it. I've seen the first Toxic Avenger and loved it, it's probably one of my favorite films. Once I got about 20 minutes through the first attempt watching it I turned it off, I felt so disappointed, I recently re-watched the whole thing and still think it's pretty bad. It just doesn't have that feel the first one did and looks like it's trying way too hard.
Does anyone else agree this movie was a big let down?
I AGREE 100%% What was the budget for this film? $100 bucks?
I liked the first film, but wow was the sequel just terrible! There are some very funny moments, but for the most part this film utterly SUCKS the big one!
It has been quite a while since I have seen The Toxic Avenger Part 2. When I use to watch it I saw it on USA UP ALL NIGHT back in the day on the USA Network. Man do I miss those days on the weekends watching great movies like this on USA Network.
That is what got me into the cult classics was USA UP ALL NIGHT! If it were not for them then I more than likely would not watch movies like this you know.
Well back in the day they had a great program that was on for like 4 hours on a Friday and Saturday night on the USA Network. Well ever since NBC bought out USA Network they got rid of USA UP ALL NIGHT!
They would show movies that were like Toxic Avenger and others that were very low budget and campy. They would even show horror movies as well. So when it was on TV it was edited out so they really did not show anything at all you know. Just possibly a woman acting like she was going to be nude when she was not.
I just finished watching this when I received it on Thursday! It was the directors cut and I loved it! I thought it was ok but it could have done better though.
I love movies like this and that is why I became a major fan of USA UP ALL NIGHT back in the day!
Well I am just trying to get peoples attention who grew up watching movies like this back in the day when USA Network was a lot cooler than what it is now. I loved movies like this and this is the kind of movies that USA Network would show and on USA UP ALL NIGHT as well!
I also agree with you 100%, I just got done watching this and it was even worse than I remember it from like 10 years ago.
The ONE thing that kept me from voting it at IMDB's lowest rating was that some of the ridiculous gore was a LITTLE funny at times, but beyond that the humor isn't even on a maturity par with SpongeBob SquarePants!
And what's with the Toxic Avenger's voice? It sounds better suited for a "Happy Days" character! Is Toxie going to come out of the closest or something?
Don't even bother with #3, the first cut of part 2 was originally 4 HOURS LONG (!!) so they cut it into two parts and thus created part three, in other words it's only the other end of the same turd.
It doesn't take itself seriously enough...it aknowledges itself as being a film, breaking the fourth wall constantly, even mentioning the first movie. This isn't SPACEBALLS, it shouldn't be such a ridiculous film.
The first one took it's ridiculousness seriously. This one is just joke after joke, no realism, bad characters, and a ridiculous voice-over narration. Even the gore is ridiculous. And that's not a good thing. It's just way too over-the-top like a Loony Toons cartoon.
They can't even get the character names right. It's Melvin Ferd, not Junko. It's Sara, not Claire! God...
People who don't close their mouths when they chew make me FURIOUS! -Mr. Furious, MYSTERY MEN
That was the trilogy's ultimate downfall (too violent for kids, too juvenile for adults), but such a combination of slapstick idiocy and extreme gore certainly has it's fanbase...it's a love it or hate it concept, I guess. I feel indifferent towards it.
The reason why his name was changed to 'Junko', though, was for plot concerns: if Toxie travels to Japan looking for his Japanese father, he should have a name that sounds vaguely Japanese, not "Ferd" (besides, they changed it back in part four). "Claire"...well, I have no idea why they did that.
Agreed, it was absolutely terrible and I stopped watching it after about 30 minutes. I don't ever want to watch the 2nd one over again. Its just insanely stupid and unfunny. While the first one didn't take itself seriously it still tried to be clever and funny, the sequel was just cheap with lame and predictable jokes. There was nothing redeeming about it.
