Sequels with New Actors for Old Characters.....

I seriously hate it when they do that. They replaced Melvin's somewhat down-to-earth looking mother with a woman that looks like a hen, replaced modest and pretty Sarah with Playboy Centerfold-esque Claire (I'm still not clear as to whether this was just Sarah with a new name or not...), and worst of all replaced Original Melvin with a guy with Chiclet teeth who looks and TALKS nothing at all like him. And why did he have spots on his face? Uggggggh.

So yeah, this probably seems like too much critical thinking for a Troma movie, lol, but I'm just wordy. I just hate it when they do this in sequels.

You also forgot to mention that the guy who was playing the Toxic Avenger is not the original guy from the first movie. The reason why they did not keep that actor was because he had a major attitude problem so they fired him and brought in this other guy for the second movie and third one.

I agree with you about Claire who replaced Sarah. I did not like that at all. The mother was even replaced from the first movie for the second and third movie who you said looks like a hen. I know I was not too happy about them replacing Melvin with some other actor at all. He looked goofy looking with the chiclets in his mouth, talking nothing like the original Melvin, and the spots on his face as well!

I am very picky about sequels as well. I do not like it when they cannot get or use the original actors for the sequels. I think it just ruins the movie to be quite honest with you.

The Claire thing was kind of worth it because Claire helped me get through puberty. Though the story goes they tried to get the original Melvin back but he wanted 50 bucks so they replaced him

Yep. I didn't care for this either.

I hated the change to Sara most. Because I thought she was great in the 1st film. She was attractive w/o looking cheap and trashy -unlike Claire, who looks like a stripper. Or Fran, from The Nanny.

Except Claire makes Fran look like a Church Girl.

Also, original Sara was perky and clumsy rather than air-headed like all the following sequels. The air-headedness makes the characters unlikable for me.

And someone mentioned in here, or on the TA II board, with Toxie. How he seemed like a Ninja Turtle. And the voice was TERRIBLE. Loyd mentions on the commentary for Citizen Toxie that he was surprised everyone hated it.

So 2 + 3 SUCKED imo. Citizen Toxie was an improvement, but still did not reach the original for me. So I enjoy CT as a film on its own. I can not see it as a sequel to the original however. Sara(h) is still stupid, and I wasn't big on the actress. And Toxie was a lot more goofy and less badass / competent.

So agreed. When actors change, the characters do as well. Aunt Vivian from Fresh Prince was an example. Both of the women were good, but the characters were not the same. I was partial to the original Aunt Viv who had attitude and swagger to her. The next actress, again likable, but didn't have the same tude and was more prissy and preppy.
