DVD in Region 1?

Is there a US DVD release for this? And if not, is it even licensed?

I am interested in seeing this, and it seems the only way is to buy a DVD from Japan. But if it is licensed in the US, I would rather just wait for it.

Not licensed on dvd in the US yet and the crappy Region2 dvd is only worth getting if you are a fan and want a copy that'll never erode due to watching it too much. The picture on it is bad. However in Japan a remasterd special edition is either comming out or is out now without burned on subs. It comes with stuff like posters and booklets and the soundtrack i think, it was a whille ago when i read what it came with.

I was disappointed in my DVD of Gunbuster. It looked like a pirate copy because of the main menu and the box.

The only good thing about the dvd is that it has the original "lectures" in between epsiodes about space, warp etc.

Yeah, I have the R2 release (actually, I think it's region free even) by Kiseki, and it's horrible as it's just a direct video to dvd transfer. You can even see video static at some points, it's really bad. If one series deserves a proper dvd release, it's this one. I wonder how that 'sequal' that Gainax made is.
Hhhm, I love Evangelion and all, but it's somewhat annoying that Evangelion is up to it's nth release but this series is still waiting for a good dvd release in the West.

There is some good news for those of us who are fans of this fine series. Manga Entertainment, which is owned by Anchor Bay Entertainment, has recently announced that they no longer hold the license to "Aim for the Top!" However, it has been announced unofficially by someone over at Media Blasters that the title has been picked up by another North American distributor. This bit of news was let out because Media Blasters was interested in acquiring the license for themselves, but realized they had beat to the punch. Chances are that whoever has the license is waiting for "Aim for the Top! 2" to run its course.

Well, that is some good news at least. Can't wait to see a nice remastered version of Gunbuster...maybe with a good 5.1 mix added to it ?:)
