Yes, I remember laughing a lot when I saw this movie in the cinema, and so was everybody else.

Short is excellent, Nolte shows a real flair for deadpan humour, tradining on his gruff, bear-like persona.

Hard to say what specific scenes I like, so many, but one of the aspects of the film I do like is how much punishment Short takes from Nolte - always slapping, hitting or punching him, and sometimes in such a nonchalont way which makes it even funnier.

OK, I guess the scenes with the girl can be very cloying, but it is at heart a gentle comedy.

Like the score too, especially the main theme - love that synth sound with that slight vibrato, something I used to try and recreate on my keyboard at home.

It is a great movie. Some 80's comedies are unfairly forgotten.
Been laughing so hard for the past hour or so -tears in my eyes and being touched by the sweet moments.
A film with it's heart in the right place and hilarious.

It's only at 5.9 as I type.
It has to be one of the best 5.9 films I've ever seen.
I bought the DVD for probably $5 to get me to Free Shipping from Amazon. Now that I've watched it, I'm glad that I did.
I saw the film as a child and had vague memories of it. There is a movie scene in my mind that I can't figure out where it's from. This is one of the ones I have thought might have it. It doesn't. The only scene that seemed vaguely familiar was when they had the girl pretend to be a boy.
This is not a film I remember ever seeing on cable. It seemed to disappear.

I'm really shocked at the low ratings. Without the context of the time when it came out, I can't figure out such low ratings. Critics must have really liked the original French film and they usually never give a remake a better rating than the original. In this case the director even did it himself.

Who has seen the original French version?
Are they really different?

Seeing this on its own now, I found it very enjoyable and funny.

Shame the DVD is so barebones. They didn't put the trailer on it. At least it is Widescreen.
