Tap is among my top all time faves..

I am astonished to see no discussion on this film. I met Gregory Hines, and fell in love.......but that is not the main reason I am saddened to see no discussion. How can we neglect, and I include myself, such an outstanding film??? I had not been here because I expected a large board and have not had the time....was I wrong eh?
It is a legend, and certainly has a fan base.
If you have seen it, what was it that made you think it was an excellent film?

The dancing! Not to mention all of the classic people that appeared in the film. I love Savion Glover! The fact that he was in it gives it a 10/10 already :)

RIP
Gregory Hines

First of all RIP to Hines and Davis Jr., they were fantastic in this flick!

I recall how wonderful the music and artistry was in this movie. The sad part of our History,is that who remembers what tap dance was? It became a dying
art form, and that is tragic! One favorite scene of the film,is when Washington tells Amy's son to teach the class.I thought the kid was so amazing and great!
I also loved the challenge scenes. These guys were awesome and floored me!

Bravo to the cast, for a look at a classic art form! Wonderful.

Granted, I saw it on Xfinity, so I'm not sure if it was cut, but maybe the problem is that there was no foul language, no senseless violence? I thought it was GREAT.

I like this film a great deal. I purchased the DVD, which has extensive special features. The DVD was released after Mr. Hines' (way too young) passing, and the interviews of those who knew him well are especially fascinating. Definitely recommended.

I treasured my VHS movie of Tap & it was one of the reasons I kept that machine as long as I did! Finally the DVD came out & I finally got a copy of it...I love this movie. I'm old enough to remember Sammy Davis in his hey-day, and I'm just a fan of tap. The classic hoofers are fabulous, and Gregory & Sammy obviously have a great affection for each other & mutual respect for their talent. I miss them both & watch this DVD several times a year - just because. I know lots of folks criticize the story-line. Really? I don't watch it for the "story", I watch it for the incredible tap.

I remember seeing (and falling in love with Gregory) Hines, Hines and Dad on Johnny Carson. I adore tap dancing, and love any chance to see Gregory Hines dance. He really was among the very best. Also love to see the young Savion Glover who obviously learned so much from Gregory Hines. I recorded it a few days ago and it will stay on the DVR list for some time just to watch them all dance.

My God, Harold Nicholas was like 68 years old and could still dance like that! Sammy was in his early 60s and already ill. These guys were all in their 60s and 70s. I don't think this is a great movie as far as plot is concerned, but what a treasure of true artists. It's like if a jazz movie had been made with Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Billie Holliday, Monk, Ella, Sarah.... Gotta go: the Challenge scene is coming up!

The "Challenge". Amazing tap dancing. I recognized Harold Nicholas right away, with the same style and amazing athleticism that he and his brother. had in the Gene Kelly musicals. Anyone ever been to a Tap Dogs show? These guys created tap. I'm so glad this movie preserves the masters.
