Alternative Awards?

In the televised awards ceremony the nominations for best comedy performance are announced as Michael Gambon for Arms and the Man, Penelope Keith for a (made-up) Alan Aykbourn play, Griff Rhys Jones for Whoops Hamlet and Ron Anderson. However, on another web site I have seen mention of Christopher Reeve and Whoops Hamlet, and Dudley Moore for Death of a Salesman. Does anyone know if there are different versions of this scene?

I think there were two different scenes. I rented the film recently, and I saw where John Imman announced Christopher Reeve for "Whoops, Hamlet!" and Dudley Moore for "Death of a Salesman." Michael Caine was nominated for the Arms and Man play. That's strange. But very true, so it seems.

Hmmm, I wasn't aware of this. Could be a reshoot with more "Hollywood" names for American audiences who may not know who Gambon, Keith and Jones are? My version's certainly the Gambon et al one.

God bless Penelope Keith...

I'm writing all this down in my memoirs so if I grow up twisted & warped, the world will know why.

According to Wikipedia,

"There are significant differences between the American release of the film and the original version, including cut or replaced scenes and overdubbing of British slang and popular culture references (particularly in the scene featuring John Inman reading the nominees for the theatre awards, where three American actors are named in addition to Ron Anderson, rather than the British actors named in the original). As of March 2007, the original version has not been released on DVD or video in the United States."

Naturally one has to be careful with Wiki, but I've no reason to doubt it on this occasion.

Is there another way out of here, apart from the front door?
Yes, the back door.
