Emma Thompson.....WOW!

Emma Thompson was so SEXY in this awful movie. Her attitude, her deameanor. I'm not even phyically attracted to her. But I definetly fell head over heels for her character.

It was her film debut. But with her ease on the screen you would never know. And her character is very likeable. I didn't think it was an awful movie though. Weather of not you like these sorts of films,it is what it is, a cute, silly, little romantic comedy. And very British in it's style of humor.

No Way!!! This movie was awful, and Emma Thompson played an uptight, rude, morose sod of a cow. In fact there was not one character that was likeable in this whole film. It was possibly one of the most shallow pieces of romantic ever to have been made - and theres a lot to compare it to. I'd rather have my eyes plied open clockwork orange style and be made to watch Andie Macdowell repeat that corny line at the end of 4 weddings than ever have to watch Jeff Goldblum be pussy-whipped by the humorless Emma Thompson in this movie.

reply

Whoa.... jcrocksworlds, why the vitriol? It's just a light, romantic, British comedy with more subtle humour than you can obviously appreciate. Stick to the slashers.

Couldn't agree more, Roger. A lovely little comedy, one I still like to watch. And it does have the silliest, funniest sex scene ever. A real Saturday afternoon film, and Emma Thompson is WOW!

reply

I'll have to concur and say your taste in sophisticated humor is lacking. Lighten up!

reply

I agree. Leave Thompson alone. She got her nangs out and that's just fine by me!

It's a pity you don't like it, I've owned this film on video since I was 10 and I still love it at 25. Though I have loved Jeff (purely platonic naturally) since he scared the living crap out of me in 'The Fly' when I was about 7 or 8. WARNING - 80s child nostalgia trip coming up; I remeber around that time, 'The Fly' was the christmas movie for about 3 years in a row! *sigh* Good days.

She's lovely and talented, and not afraid to show either characteristic. Love this woman!

I've always liked Emma and I find her very lovely in this movie.
Love her haircut, it is so beautiful.

reply

Indeed! She used to look a bit mature for her age, but these days, she's looking much younger than she is. Whatever she's doing, it works. She's always a joy to watch, whether in comedies or dramas.

I like Emma Thompson a lot, but I actually think she started to look aged early on – thanks to excessive tanning or whatever she does to make her skin look that orangey color. So, it was a real eye-opener to how beautiful she was, seeing her with her natural pale complexion in this movie. She looked prettier in this movie than I ever remember seeing her!

Not counting her boyish hairdo, though, I really do wish they would've done her hair differently than one of the kids from the Tim Allen show HOME-IMPROVEMENT, ha ha!

Excellent points on some of the inconsistencies of Emma's appearance. It's usually hard to get a handle on what actors really look like because of the makeup manipulations required for their roles – as well as the ones they choose when they're in the public eye. But yes: Some of her skin tones and hairstyles have been odd choices at such a young age.

What was her cat hair cut. If you don't mind, could you find a link to a picture, and posted here. I would like to see what her hair looked like in the movie that you watched. Just to see if we both watched the same film, because I hear there's two versions floating around.
