Why was Carol in such a hurry to believe that about Jerry? Wine??

Carol seemed to suspect/believe that Jerry was a killer, awfully easily. I can see her being suspicious with the song and all...but...
Most people would have a very hard time imagining the man they're about to marry is a killer!

And what did the wine have to do with anything? So what that her friend Maggie had the same brand. That doesn't mean Jerry was a killer.
The writing seemed off here.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

reply

Why are you referring to him as Jerry? He was Gene in this one.

I'm happiest...in the saddle.

reply

Mostly habit. And they refer to him as Jerry while he's in the hospital.

That actually surprised me...why did they call him Jerry there?? Did he refuse to reveal his real name maybe?

Yeah they never reveal his actual identity or much of anything about his past really. Except for his dad use to whistle that song, and that he killed his pet dog when he was younger..and also that he had a "strict upbringing"

The detective in the first one said they had no way of knowing his true identity, and that he was able to cover all that up.

When does it say he killed his dog when he was younger? I remember Jerry saying he had a dog when he was a kid, a mutt.

He says "There was an....accident." Then the psychiatrist says "Was Rennie (the dog) being bad?"

And then the Stepfather starts crying. Clearly indicates he killed it.

I think the equation was something like this:

Wine + Whistling song + Some odd / suspicious behaviour, including not being super upset about Maddie's death (etc.)

Besides, it's not like she says "YOU KILLED HER!!", she just asks him about the wine and then raises her voice when he gets defensive

reply

And the fact that he came back with wine in the middle of the night and said he had his secrets when she asked hime where he got it

reply

wasn't it a special kind of wine as well? Something that wasn't bought down the street?

reply

Yes, it was.

She caught him in a lie. That, combined with whistling the song (and at just that moment)... and it all fell apart.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

I didn't understand the wine bottle thing either. Why would he take it home in the first place? The medical examiner would test her alcohol level and she has a glass on the table, so what happened to the opened bottle??? And why bring it home, especially if we are to believe it was a special brand, just so Carol would recognize the uncommon brand later on? Uggh.
