I was playing Star Trek Online tonight and I'm going through the episodes set on Nimbus III. It got me thinking about this movie. If Sybok was on Nimbus III at the beginning of the movie, he had to have gotten there on a starship. Why didn't he just convince the people aboard that ship to "share their feelings" with him, and take that ship to Sha'Ka'Ree instead of wasting everybody's time by hijacking the Enterprise?

He probably came in on some type of small research ship or cargo transport or even a long range shuttle of some type, that wouldn't have made it to the barrier, let alone pass through it. He needed a bigger fish, hence the bait on Nimbus III. The novelization, I believe, makes a plot point out of him having to alter the engines/shields to make the journey (or because the god-thing misled him telepathically because god needs a starship).... either way its obvious that he needed something bigger and better then what he alreadry had access to, which is good enough for me.
