Why does everyone hate this?It has a great leading performance by Brad Dourif and has a nice conspiracy angle too it,not too mention a great subject matter and title.

by the end it got sorta crappy...liked the beginning though, when his parents burst into flames. was awesome. i just found it predictable...it wouldnt have been at the time it was made but nowadays we've seen it all before. i was laughing by the end due to bad acting on lisa's part though. i cant work out if i like or hate it...may have to watch it again...

Yes, this. It's not a bad film but these kind of horrors were ten a penny in the late 80's and early 90's and it doesn't stand out from most of the mediocre offerings from back then. It's watchable and Dourif is always good value but the final act with Lisa running around with her arm on fire was just hilarious for all the wrong reasons.

I agree... not nearly enough rats in this. Graveyard Shift made up for it though.

I didn't hate it, but I wasn't amazed by it. I got it with Society on dvd. Brad Dourif was good in this movie though.

I always liked this movie because waiting for Brad Dourif to go up once and for all is pretty tense. What if little Drew Barrymore in Firestarter was just as likely to be burned alive as the bad guys who were after her? Its a horrible thought.

Brad Dourif is like the riff on the Human Torch, where his super power is bursting into flames, but then he says "HELP I'M ON FIRE!!!" Its Cronenberg-type weirdness where his body is transforming and he (like us) doesn't really have any idea what will happen or when. The people going up all around him are incidental to what is going to happen to him - to me that's where the real suspense is, IMO.

I watched this film about 8 years ago. Forgot the title, and searched a long time before I found it again.

I agree, it deserves more than a 4 rating.

I just saw it and I liked it.
For a 1990 movie, it is crappy. But it has a strong premise and the story is pretty good.
The leading actor is ok, not great, but not bad.
Liked the 1950's intro story too. That was very good.
All in all, if you like 80's B horror, and don't mind that it's actually a 1990 movie, it's worth a sixpack on a saturday night.

I saw a copy of it once years ago at a microcenter and didn't pick it up, but I did notice it had the guy who played chucky in it and that was enough to entice me to remember the little film.

So, I just picked up the Anchor Bay release of this at my local Fye, didn't even know they had the rights, even though it was probably a while ago. Ive been on a Dourif kick as of late and I look forward to watching this.

I thought the movie was a big disappointment. Brad Dourif was great, but the movie was boring, unfocused and depressing.

If you want better science fiction by Tobe Hooper, I recommend Lifeforce and his fun remake of Invaders from Mars.

Very difficult concept to pull off.

The film has some strengths and good moments along with poorer moments. A decent effort all things considered but not a great film.
