Thank God!

About time too.

Any day now, they might even get around to releasing "Sole Survivor" too.

Great Valentine's Day gift from MGM. Now, if only somebody will release Zentropa, Max Headroom, Cafe Society, Thursday, Drowning By Numbers, Prospero's Books, Baby of Macon, Cold Turkey, Magnificent Obsession, Comfort and Joy (1984), Linklater's SubUrbia, and several other movies I've been longing for.

Baby of Macon's great. I think you can get it as an import. And everyone who loves movies should have a code-free DVD player by now. You can get them for as little as $60.

I have a region-free player and AnyDVD on my computer. Baby of Macon import has poor video quality and it's cropped/stretched so it doesn't look right. Here's a review of the DVD. I wish Criterion or someone would release these DVDs...

ahhh. Too bad the copy's poor. Thanks for the tip. It's one I've almost bought a couple of times. Guess I'll wait. It would be perfect for Criterion. It one of the only Greenaway films not to be released in the US even though it's one of the best. Pity. I saw it in San Francisco, and the only print the programmer at the theatre could get had FRENCH subtitles on it!

Email Criterion to request a Criterion release of Some Girls. The email address is [email protected].

There is a region-free blu-ray for Baby of Macon (from Sweden) available on eBay and Amazon. Excellent quality, but no English subtitles. Greenaway's movies tend to benefit from subtitles, IMO, due to heavily accented or slang dialogue. It is in the original 2.35:1 ratio, a bit grainy sometimes, but very sharp and bright overall.

Great movies, all. Especially the Greenaway. If you liked Comfort and Joy, you'd probably also like Stars and Bars. It's one of my favorites from that era, and has a similar feel to Some Girls and Comfort and Joy. And it's hilarious, too.

Thanks. I have heard of Stars and Bars, but it's only available on VHS. I looked on Amazon and eBay. Do you know anywhere to get it on DVD? Cheers!
