I'm just wondering why farrah was chosen to play diane downs, they may both be blonde but actually look nothing alike. Farrah has been a sex symbol in her time and is very attractive as for diane downs she has never been a sex symbol and isn't all that attractive (in my opinion)
They must've chosen her because they wanted a strong actress, not necessarily a lookalike. The vast majority of the public probably doesn't know what Diane looks like.
Sorry I don't normally post here only read, but I just finished reading the book and its commented quite frequently throughout how beautiful and attractive Diane supposedly is, although from the photos I have seen of her I disagree, but there you go.
Farrah, was a great choice....because she had played so many recent victims at that time. She's an excellent actress in those roles....and she is sexy and flirty as the role called for. Someone had to be believable as the "seducer" she was!
I thought Diane Downs quite attractive in her prime. Sure, she's not the beauty Farrah is/was, but it gave Farrah a lot of ability to show off her acting talent. I also like Farrah in "The Burning Bed," and she was no beauty in that one, that's for sure. She played a low-class abused woman and looked like H in it for the major part.
i personally thought diane looked quite a bit like princess diana. i know major insult to the peoples princess, but in soem of diane photos she does look like princess di

I wondered that myself, as they don't look alike at all I agree. And while Farrah gave a terrific performance (her stone cold looks still stay in my mind), she seemed an odd choice also because she is too old. Diane Downs was in her 20s then, and Farrah is very obviously much older than that.

I think it's very wise they did not cast a lookalike, given the obscene depravity of the crime. Some people would confuse the real Diane with the woman portraying her, causing potentially serious consequences for the performer.
As I recall, the author of the book described Diane Downs as one who could either look plain as mud or stunningly beautiful depending on the angle you were looking from--and I myself always thought that Farrah's attractiveness depended to a degree on lighting, makeup, etc--so it actually is not all that bad a bit of casting, even though as you point out, they don't neccessarily look all that much alike otherwise.
Well, most people do not look like one of Charlie's Angels in real life...which is always a way most stars throw a story out of whack, a little. (You watch a film and think, "Why is their husband LEAVING them?? They look like...Michelle PFEIFFER!!")
But for ordinary life, Diane Downs was a goodlooking woman. She also supposedly had an excellent body (slim and athletic)
