Not bad but could be better.

I bought this movie on DVD for a buck but unlike other people here I only got the one film for my dollar. But like other people I was disappointed in the quality of the movie, it looked as I was watching a old VHS tape that someone used to record it off of TV. Not to mention that I cannot watch it on a regular DVD player because it constantly freezes then unfreezes every other second, so I have to watch it in my Blu-Ray player where it plays fine. The movie itself though wasn't bad, but it could've been better. I lost interest during the party scene and only regained it once Mark Hamil's character showed up to crash it. There was some very bad scenes in it though that ruined it for me like the obvious wig the Bill Paxton is wearing at the very end of the movie and some of the scenes of the planes in flight looked like a cut and paste job. This movie made in 1989 looks like some films I've seen made back in 1981-84 but I was able to forgive that once the story got rolling. At first glance the movie seems to have the cheese factor going on as it instantly reminds you of movies like "Cherry 2000" or "Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone" but once the story gets going it starts to resemble a actual decent plot for a sci-fi film, however this movie lacks those other elements that are needed to make a sci-fi film great. Even in a dystopic future there is a feeling of "This is the future" and with the exception of the android this movie looks as though it could take place in the present or even the past. The Slipstream worshipers were a nice touch but the film spent very little time with them and the artifact collectors at the end bored me to death. This is one movie I'd like to see remade. I could picture Keanu Reeves playing the role of the android but he could be criticized as being too much like his character in "The day the Earth stood still." I also think if this is remade they can drop the female bounty hunter from the film all together. I can recommend this to people based only on it's price because if they turned out to hate it, they're only out a buck.

How I rate movies: 5 stars=F,6 stars=D,7 stars=C,8 stars=B,9 stars=A.1-4 stars are very bad.

I use the same scale and gave Slipstream a 7. I too felt it was underrated.

It is underrate and I also think Mark Hamill us under used. The feel if it is very "made for tv" There are some bad scenes too but I love all scenes with hamill and Bob Peck is great in it.
