A Decent Dvd Release Please

It's about time there was a decent Dvd release of this excellent film, instead of all the lousy, cheap and nasty releases that pop up all over the place. This isn't the kind of film that works in full screen, I want Widescreen. 5.1 would be nice too, but I could live without it, but it has to be Widescreen.

That's not asking too much, is it? Just Widescreen.

Well, there is a Region 2 DVD release that is much better quality than any of the Region 1 DVDs but it isn't in Widescreen although it does have DTS 5.1 Surround along with the usual 5.1 Surround Sound and subtitles. It's definetly the best Slipstream DVD, and it's official, not a bootleg or a cheapo DVD. I bought it and I'm glad I did. Here's a link where you can get it: www.amazon.co.uk.

I bought the official U.K. Dvd and it only has stereo sound. Check your Dvd again, I think you remembered wrong. I know it's always being listed as Widescreen and 5.1 on many sites, but it's definitely only Fullscreen and 2.0.

Yeah, your right! I thought it was in surround sound but no. However, compared to other releases, it still has the best picture quality.

Seriously! This movie looks like it cost 10 dollars to make. I doubt anyone is gonna spend any money restoring it, laying tracks for 5.1 sound and then marketing it. Its a terrible, terrible movie. Best only watched when drunk or high and only to riff it.

O.K. then. I'll change my opinion cause you say so.

Just randomly found this here in Australia for $2 ("Payless" double bill DVD with something called "In the Year 2889"). I haven't watched it yet but I'm betting full frame (pan and scan) and likely a fairly poor transfer, but I'm just happy to have something to watch other than my worn-out VHS tape!

I wish they'd release this in widescreen with the "making of" and trailer, though. :(

On the other hand, I didn't think this would ever even make it to DVD, like a lot of other obscure cool little sci-fi films.

reply

It was produced by Gary frickin' Kurtz, why can't he pony up and give this film a decent blu-ray transfer? So the movie flopped but who cares. He made millions off of Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back, he can afford to give this a decent transfer.

reply

actually he spent all his Star Wars money making this. It's gets old when people assume anyone who was ever in a movie who made a film must be a millionaire.

reply

The movie can be found in the 12 disk collection of 50 scifi movies called 'Sci-fi Invasion' put out by Mill Creek Entertainment. Hope this helps! :)

yea I was looking for this on DVD and also a decent copy of that other forgotten guilty pleasure from 1990.. Neon City, a little post apocalypse film with Michael Ironside!.. Classics!

What day is it?....What year?.

reply

It's in the public domain, which means a good quality widescreen DVD release isn't going to happen anytime soon.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!

reply

There's quite a few public domain films out there that deserve a remastered DVD or Blu-Ray release (HORROR EXPRESS, anyone?), but I think studios avoid them because any competing company could just release the film as it is. They probably fear it's only a small legion of fans who would buy an expensive remastered DVD of this film with special features and commentary, as apposed to someone who just finds it in a cheap DVD box set.
