I read on Wikipedia that the band "Counting Crows" got their name from the reference in this movie to the poem. I wonder if that is true.

It's true. I just saw Adam Duritz (Counting Crows's frontman) on A&E's Private Sessions yesterday morning. Mary-Louise Parker is one of his best friends. He explained that the reference in the movie is where he got their name.
