The rolling text at the end...

Did anyone else think that was completely unnecessary? I found it jarring, and slightly comical by how inappropriate it seemed after the powerful scene that came before it. It was like something a misguided distributor might have insisted upon to satisfy the audience and give them a level of closure. I think I could have done without it.

I have to get more pudding for this trip to Hawaii.

I don't think any distributor in the world has any saying when it comes to Haneke's films and what he puts in them. The text was there simply to illustrate that it wasn't a sick fantasy but sheer reality.

It didn't bother me really, I appreciated knowing the parents were in disbelief that it was a suicide (the text said they asked the police to investigate or something, right?) and that added a little bit more to the impact for me. To each their own though - if you didn't like the rolling text, fair enough. :)
