b.o.r.i.n.g - vastly overated by intellectuals and film snobs

Just over an hour into the film and before anyone leaps to attack me and say I have no patience and should stick to Michael Bay films I have watched long and slow films - I like Asian horror films which are notoriously slow, enjoyed(?) Salo, sat through Avatar (nearly 3 hours)... but this film is *beep* boring...at least in Hanekes Funny Games...things happened ...there was a build up ...this is an hour long of humdrum stuff masquarading as art with almost ZERO tension - do i really want to see people putting toothpaste on toothbrushes? Or a car in a car wash? - This makes Bennys Video look good!

Unless the last 30 minutes are sublime I am calling *beep* on this film - Haneke shot his load on Funny Games and is a 1 trick pony

Well I did see the end I thought it was crap basically - How on earth anyone can rate this film as even average let alone great is beyond me. Luckily I saw it on a streaming site for free - TBH If I had paid to see this I would organise a lynch mob on Haneke kill him and get my money back- it really is that poor

I suspect what we have is what I call a reputation momentum where a bad film is considered good simply on the merit of the reputation of other films - From the films of Haneke I have seen this is dreadful however I thought Funny Games was great - people are scared to admit that a filmamker they praise on one film can churn out *beep* like this

LOL I see that I basically getting the same "argument" when any work considered "art" is objectively critiqued - normally its either "You are too stupid to understand the movie" in some form...OR "the director is an artist..." BUT NEVER any well reasoned argument

Over to you - CONVINCE me this is even an average film...explain why it isnt a bore-fest - Should be easy IF this film is as great as people claim

Rather unconvincing attempts at pop psychologizing there. Seems more probable that a great director`s films have a harder time finding appreciation because of the masterworks they`re inevitably compared to.

At any rate you certainly haven`t given any indication that you in fact `do` get what Haneke is doing there or why.

It's really stupid and pretentious to put down what a director chooses to present his audience without trying to understand why. I do think he meant to bore us, but to what purpose? That's what you should think about. You have to question the motivations, it's the only way you can enjoy art beyond the surface.

It was boring. It was mundane. It was dull. It was... plastic.

It was supposed to be.

It appears that Heneke wanted to make the most boring film he could... on purpose.

Well, that's arguable and contingent upon a person's taste or entire being in time. I watched this and the "mundanity" which Haneke represented didn't seem boring to me. I'll chalk it up to his trademark film style which I would guess was actually the problem for you here.

I have a question for you and anyone who disliked this film. Have you seen Revolutionary Road and what did you think of it?

No, i havent seen that one.

And yes, haing seen more Heneke films it seems that this mundane approach is his trademark style and i dont really like it.

What a surprise to see one of the biggest tools on IMDb referring to how only intellectuals and films snobs could possibly enjoy this kind of film. That's over 6,000 "intellectuals" and "films snobs" who have voted this film a 7 or higher .

I like Asian horror films which are notoriously slow

As proven by your avatar, a 60 minute flick which features a series of "gruesome" set-pieces such as stuffing a hairdryer down someone's throat and sticking a toothbrush up someone's nose. Other favourites include "Grotesque", a film which is essentially just series of graphic torture sequences, pretty much the epitome of "toture porn". However, films like Audition, A Tale Of Two Sisters and Battle Royale are pure crap. He likes the "slow" ones though .

It's not a horror film you tool. Talk about missing the point. You see Skyblazeeterno doesn't like to be told that he doesn't get movies. For example he complains about a film like Irreversible being told in reverse because surely that's not logical .
