Anything by Haneke should suffice my good friend.

Or dogville,or the idiots.

definitely these two:

Werner Herzog's "Stroszek"

Pier Paolo Pasolini's "Teorama"

but I find this movie reminds me of Robert Bresson's "L'argent" more than any other movie. the parallels are striking

Requiem for a Dream

Grave of the Fireflies

Maybe not thematically, but in (nihilist) mood:

• David Cronenberg's Crash, and not only because of the car wash. And while you're at it, read JG Ballard.
• Marina de Van's Dans ma Peau.
Seul contre tous by Gaspar Noé.
• Yukio Mishima's Yûkoku. Not for the squeamish!
Hotel by Jessica Hausner.
• Lars von Trier's Antichrist.
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.
• Philippe Grandrieux's Sombre.

And anything by Haneke, of course.

Chaos reigns

Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles [Chantal Akerman]

A bleak portrait of contemporary existential alienation realized by filming the monotonous routine and minutiae of daily life

And you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!

There's an Italian film...kind of like Jeanne Dielman, but it's shorter lol...a man quits his job, goes home and finds an antique gun that used to be owned by a famous western gunslinger (can't even remember who it was)...anyone know what movie I'm talking about?? Can't say much without giving the movie away..it has almost NO dialogue, and you just sit there the entire movie wondering the motivation behind the main character's actions until the end of the movie! It was one of those films you hate until the awesome ending lol

"Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles [Chantal Akerman]" contends to be the MOST BORING FILM OF ALL TIME. I do not have a weak attention span. For example, I thoroughly enjoyed all 16 hours of "Berlin Alexanderplatz". The problem is this film was made to induce sleep. It's well made and does have an exceptional performance, but the level of tedium is unbearable. You have been warned.

One film that I can recommend is Irreversible by Gaspar Noe. This film rivals The Seventh Continent in terms of absolute emotional devastation (at least, in my opinion it does). And I also second Noe's, I Stand Alone, in parallel terms of showcasing hopelessness and despair.

Enjoy!

I was thinking Fassbinder - Chinesisches Roulette had similar atmosphere, style and even to some extent plot.
