Wes Craven should be ashamed of himself.

So bad it should be called Schlocker.

I agree, ranks with DEADLY FRIEND and PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS. I DESPISE the Scream movies, but this POS was even worse.

Right on...

People Under the Stairs is considered one of Cravens best films. Shocker was a black comedy. Most people just don't get the humor in the film. I loved it. Mitch Pileggi looked like he was having a blast playing the part of Pinker. I personally didn't think Berg was that bad considering the movies bizarre subject matter.

Shocker was not worse than the Scream movies. Shocker sucked. Scream was great, Scream 2 was decent, Scream 3 was disappointing.

I liked Red Eye, but Shocker was more entertaining, IMO. It wasn't perfect. Far from it, actually. But I liked the ideas, liked Pinker as a brutal killer and loved the soundtrack.

reply

Who wants to see a perfect movie anyway? Look at The Evil Dead. It's hardly the perfect movie but how many people liked it. Red Eye wasn't that bad but Wes Craven has done better work.

the problem with this movie was that it was dark enough. Just a little bit too clean & not bloody enough. I think this would have worked if it was made in the same vein as The First Power.

BTW the song No More Mr. Nice Guy is terrible!!!

reply

Omega_pinion, you've never heard of the x-rated cut? Er, it was never released, but the original version(Craven's intended version) was a lot more gory and brutal. The only problem was that it wouldn't fly, so Craven had to cut a lot of that(as well as some additional scenes) from the movie just to get an R-rating. That's one of the reason why he wants this movie remade, so it can be done right(with all the brutality and gore in tact).

reply

The truth of it is that it is his best movie other than The original Nightmare on Elm Street. If you don't like my opinion then don't read it.

People actually hate this movie? Come on, it's late-80s cheesiness and soundtrack are what makes it so great.

And when I say it's cheesy, I don't mean it's bad. I LOVE this movie.

I think its a cool movie. The guy who played Pinker was good

reply

Obviously you missed the point with this flick. If you try to take the film even remotely seriously you'll hate it. Most people don't get it but I thought it was great and hilarious.

I can't believe this is considered Craven's worst.....has anyone seen My Soul to Take....utter garbage. I know this thread was created a while ago but even then it wasn't his worst.

Shocker is just a silly black comedy horror movie, no more no less.

You will pay the price for your lack of vision

reply

It is a matter of opinion, Many people say it was bad but many people say it was one of Wes Cravens best work.

i LOVE this film, i saw it as a kid and still think Horace Pinker is scary as *beep* honestly its better than ANY horror movie released in the last 15 years including that SAW *beep* if your going to bag somebody about there film, make sure your not in the ACADEMY AWARDS SHOULD GO TO FOR THIS YEAR section of imdb. this is a classic and the bathroom scene is gory as hell and the park scene.... *beep* fix up your condescending ways people or you wont see classics like this again, shock horror at its best. a dastardly scenario well played i give it 8 out of 10. any loser can troll and bad mouth older movies because 90s kids are all over the place these days, sticking there over indulged noses were they dont belong!!!!!

He should be ashamed of himself ... for not giving Heather Langenkamp a better role.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for.

Lol True,it was a terrible film but if there's something positive in it is that you get to see Mitch Pileggi in an early role just a few years shy of his recurring appearance as A.D. Walter Skinner in The X-Files. His performance in the movie his perhaps the only good thing to watch it for. But I disagree with whoever said The People Under the Stairs was awful. It was no classic by any stretch but it was enjoyably dumb horror movie fodder. I suspect it was what Craven was aiming for.
