what happened after joe came to greece to take shirley home ?

Did shirley stay in greece or go back to england ?

I assume Shirley and her husband stayed in Greece for awhile, and found new life in their marriage. It's not clear if Shirley goes back to England, but I would think so.

Well, I certainly hope so! I imagine Jo and Shirley falling in love with each other all over again and staying in Greece til they're old and grey (with the occasional visit to England to make sure that naff daughter of theirs is managing)! Nothing else would sit well with me.

They went home, of course (after a short holiday there, I hope).
She never stopped loving him, and he loved her too.

It was a beautiful movie. :)

I always thought the opposite of the other posters. I always thought she stayed in Greece and Joe went home. I think this because she is a changed person. She's tasted a totally different life and I don't think she could ever go back. Also, at the end when Joe is walking up and she takes her sunglasses off, there are tears in her eyes. I think she loves Joe but she knows this is the end and she doesn't want to hurt him. She does love him but that life is over.

We don't know what happened, but the point is, it didn't matter; Shirley was no longer forced one way or the other; she could make up her own mind, on her own terms.

She served him with divorce papers, and despite the fact that she left him and had an extra marital affair, she was awarded the house, and he now has to pay her money just for being alive.

I think that Joe and Shirley worked things out and I feel that the table by the sea symbolised this. When she asks for the table to be moved at the start of the film she realises that her 'dream' hasn't come true as she imagined. Despite this disappointment, she puts the table by sea again when Joe is coming. To me this means the same as for us all, what is the point of having a dream if there is no-one to share it with?

I don't think their marriage was beyond saving at all. I just think like many people after years of child-rearing, working & the humdrum of every day life they'd lost their way and needed to find it again.

I think they'll get to know each other again in Greece and he had come to try to win her back (that suit he was wearing showed me that he was making an effort to look good for her). Their new life could, then, be in either Greece or Britain, it wouldn't matter where.
