Is anybody out there?

I just found this website and I immediately looked up Shag, which is my favorite movie. My small circle of girlfriends and I love Shag--it's a cult movie for us. We've seen it a hundred times and know all the dialogue. Pretty pathetic for a group of women who are now 37! I just got my 17 niece turned on to it. We watched it four times in six days. Nobody, absolutely nobody, has ever heard of this movie if I mention it. And it never plays on TV. What's with that? Well, don't mind me, I was just excited to see this message board!

I hope that you have been to Myrtle Beach and experienced it BEFORE 1996...I think that was the beginning of the end. It now looks so different from when I worked there in 1990. I haven't seen this movie in years, but after checking some of the comments I will find it and watch it again. I lived in Florence, which was only 60 miles from M.B. and there was some scenes shot there as well. I noticed on the "trivia" portion that IMDB claims Hurricane Andrew destroyed certains buildings used in the movie. I never knew it was in Fla. I was always under the impression it was all done in SC. O well...hope you read this.

I remember it being shot in SC as well; I am from columbia and was living there at the time of filming. In fact, lots of locals ended up in the movie. One of my co-workers at the time was in the scene with Jimmy Valentine, chasing him into his limo; another friend is in the parade of bathing beauties at the Miss Sun Fun Contest; and a sorority sister is in a lot of dancing scenes at the end. Maybe the trivia meant Hurricane Hugo, which hit SC coast hard in Fall of 1989.

I'm one of those people who has a different current favorite movie every other week, but Shag will always be my all-time favorite movie in the whole world. It is the best girl "buddy film" ever made...and, I think, much better than the more popular Dirty Dancing. The dancing murders me and I kick myself daily for not knowing how to shag. The dialogue is priceless from Luann's prissy admonitions to Melaina's inappropriate, unladylike declarations and Chip and Buzz are positively adorable...and Carson and Buzz's first kiss is the best movie kiss I can think of right this second. And while the film may not be exactly mainstream, as it is never shown on television and you can buy it for $5 at Walmart, it's insanely popular with high school and college-age South Carolina girls...it was to them what Dirty Dancing was to every 8 year-old girl outside South Carolina...

I love Shag too. Although I don't think I've had the same difficulty you have in finding others who have heard of it. It's a wonderful movie with fantastic characters. I don't think I'm as into it as you are though.

This is totally one of my favorite movies. I can quote it almost verbatim (so you can irritate everyone watching it with you!) I find I have the same problem of no one else even hearing of it before. So I let them borrow it and they love it too. It is just a feel good guilty pleasure movie!

Tomorrow has been canceled due to a lack of interest.

Hello,
i too spent many a futile hour in search of that song....it is called (not surprisingly) oooh...aaaah... and it is by a little-known artist named jakki o. i definitely bought the cd just for that song, but i think it was worth it. hope that helps!

I absolutely adore this movie as well. I saw it for the first time in 2000 and I have been hooked ever since. I rented it from the local library for like two bucks and very soon after I bought it on ebay. I know every line in the movie and nearly ever song. It has such a great soundtrack, with my fave song being Jakki O's Ooh Ahh (the song that played during Carson and Buzz's first kiss). Last summer, I watched it everyday for a month. Pathetic, I know. But I'm glad that I'm not alone here.

I'm a guy, and I LOVE this movie! I've probably watched it over onehundred times! It's all because when I was five, my sister rented this, and Hairspray, and I fell in love! I've always been in love with Pudge and Carson, and I know all the lines by heart! My sister's jealous cuz I have the DVD, and she has the crappy VHS reissue with the new soundtrack!

I'm 23 years old and shag is one of my most favorite movies becuase it is "the most fun"

" are you fuzzy?"
" you shut your filthy mouth!"

I had never heard mention of this film until a few months ago when my friend informed me that she rented it and found the similarities between each character and each of our girlfriends to be rather uncanny. She later said, "Yeah, you act so much like the ugly one with the glasses." (That was okay becuase she paralleled herself to "the blonde tramp.")

It reminded us of our trip to Myrtle Beach in June for Sun Fun and of our time together in general. The film even brought back memories of a sleepover when we were about ten where we Shagged together in my friends kitchen in our socks and PJ's. For us, I suppose, the movie is a favorite for sentimental reasons rather than actually thinking that it is the best movie ever made or even close.

It really is sad that Myrtle Beach isn't the way it use to be a few years ago. Due to the fact that it is so "skuzzy," our summer trip this year will be in Isle of Palms. haha...I didn't really think about this, but due to its proximity to Ft. Sumter, we will probably spend our senior year beach trip "touring goddamn colonial homes."
