I can understand not using the telephone but what in the hell did sitting on the couch have to do with anybody finding out they were there?

Spring Awakening
When I was a kid I thought she was worried somebody might be able to see them through the windows but it's obvious they weren't worried about that because they had all the lights on their first night there. I mean she didn't have any problem with them sleeping in the beds and the beds would probably see more use than the couch would if it had just been the four of them for the weekend.
