This Film

I found the video tape, @ a thrift store, a few days ago. And when I saw the spine on the shelf, I immediately thought of the British meaning of the word, "shag." But finding that it was an American film, it still piqued my curiosity.

According the release date on the main page, it came out after what would've been my junior year in high school. Yet, I've never heard nor seen this film, until now. And I have to say, that it was quite enjoyable.

So, I go looking for the DVD, only to find that it's one of those OOP, (i.e. ridiculously-expensive) releases. Rats!

MGM HD channel may be the best and only place to catch this film in a proper presentation... until one of those secondary distributors gets the rights to release a proper Blu-ray. That could be years though. Until then, it's a "lost movie" and that's a shame because so many people are missing a real gem.

That's a real shame that the dvd is out of print- maybe someone will re-release it. The dvd is better bc they restored the original music from the movie. I live in Charleston SC near where this was filmed- it was filmed in Myrtle Beach about 2 hours away. Anyway, I too was in high school at that time. The movie was actually filmed in 1987 but for some reason not released until 1989. When the movie was shown on HBO it had a particular soundtrack but then when it was released on VHS the songs in some parts changed. For some reason different songs were substituted for others in certain scenes. But then when the dvd was released they put the original songs back in. So the dvd songs are better bc they were the original ones. My point here is that if you can find the dvd- even if it's a bootleg- get it bc the music is much better.
