DVD's out of print but that's ok... it's airing in glorious HD on the MGM Channel right at this moment and all month long.

Glad I have two copies of the DVD. If it ever is released on Blu-Ray, I might consider selling one of them.

I remember watching this movie as a kid with my older sister and cousins and I want to watch it as an adult to see if it's as good as I remember . :-(
Out of print means they no longer manufacture new copies of the DVD. MGM owns the film. There's a channel called MGM HD which certain cable and satellite systems carry and MGM HD broadcasts Shag in high definition regularly. I dvr'd it and am holding on to that for sure because even a used DVD is pricey for this title. Pristine copies from collectors who are willing to sell them are going for $100+ on E-bay and Amazon. Eventually, a small distributor like Shout or Twilight Time may temporarily get the rights to distribute a Blu-ray (that's been happening a lot lately with smaller titles and cult films) but there's no guarantee. Until then MGM HD is the ticket. The film looks and sounds amazing in HD.

shareI know Time Warner Cable carries MGM HD... probably Direct TV and DISH also offer it. And yes, it's as good as you remember. Dirty Dancing gets all the glory because it came out a couple of years earlier, but Shag is every bit as good.

The promotion I had with direct tv ran out last month and I just realized that I'm paying an extra $35 more than usual. so I called and went on about lowering my bill, and finally I ask if they have any other promotions .. boom they give me one with showtime and 6 months of MGM hd for free. I was like wtf? I didn't even have to ask for MGM hd. So now I wait and see if shag is gonna be on. Lol I really tripped out.
So yeah for anyone interested direct tv has a promotion with free MGM hd for 6 months. Get on it.
They'll probably put Shag in the rotation around July... they always do the retrospective of teen romance and comedy during that timeframe. It usually includes Modern Girls, Shag, Mystic Pizza, Secret Admirer, Class, Foxes, Private School and many more. They have an amazing library of '80s teen cinema. I'm sure you'll be able to grab it this summer.
