Holy Blood vs. Paint
Just watched this last night, well over the last couple nights: I had to take a break, halfway through, the film is devastatingly depressing. I will say compared to El Topo or Holy Mountain, this was a relatively straightforward narrative. Still...
I hope this goes without saying, but spoilers ahead, nothing really giving away key plot points. Why do people go on an imdb discussion board for a movie they haven't seen?
What was with the shock of a pool of blood being "just paint." That was enough for the Monsignor to condemn the place? To make the Christian comparison, the blood of Christ is "just wine." If it was an actual pool of blood, they would have got the thumbs up, carry on then?
I guess the other thing that stuck out, on the subject of Christianity: A confusing bit of symbolism, in his vision he's striking the Jesus Christ pose in a room full of chickens. Any reason there? Jodorowsky seems to like to work Christ into everything. My only speculation, he seems to envision the souls of his victims leaving their grave/body as birds. He's dealing with the internal struggle of all those he has killed/will kill? Any other theories?
