2 Questions

I just finished watching this

2 questions,

1) Does anyone know the significance of music being played whenever someone from the circus dies, i think it's the same song every time i'm not sure, is there a meaning to it? there's always a band around somewhere when someone dies, his mum, the elephant, his dad

2) Did anyone else think the Alma was really sweet? I couldn't help but fall for her straight away, she was so innocent and had such a lovely face. I wonder why most of these actors (including her) never made another film? God she was pretty!

Anyway, i watched this film through watching Don't Look Now and i gotta say this film made no sense to me, it seemed to have a very basic, thin plot to it and the weirdness wasn't the kind of wierdness where it's random, it was the kinda wierdness that just didn't really make sense to the plot, maybe that's just me

But if anyone could shed any light on my first question, thanks :)

reply

No. It wasn't just you. Pointless, boring movie from start to finish.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

I'm sorry you didn't get one of the most beautiful films.

1. Been a long time since I saw this... but I think the music in the elephant's funeral was a traditional dirge, just a funeral march. I got the impression it would be a traditional thing in most of the Americas outside of Canada and the U.S.
2. Alma was definitely there as a redeeming figure, so the reaction is pretty much universal for anyone who got into the movie. Jodorowsky has almost always worked with non-professionals who don't have career aspirations or, more importantly, proper management and representation. I'm guessing she had experience as a dancer, circus or live performer and also worked in Mexico, where most of Jodorowsky's films have been made,

Alma is the Spansh word for Soul. She is in White Face like a pure soul or angle. When Felix kills people he paints them white too. Then a white bird flies out. Like a clean soul being set free.
