So what did you think? I found this on VHS, and it wasn't great but not bad. It's a bit more of a melodrama than a thriller, but the performances and direction are stronger than I expected.

This was one of the very last slasher rip-offs of "Halloween/Friday the 13th" from 1979-1991. By the late `80's when it was filmed, it didn't even try for gory death scenes and that's okay. Not all of those 100-odd slashers were gory and violent. This one - like so many others - went for the college setting, settled on cutaway death scenes for the most part, but had a mildly diverting mystery and decent suspense saved for the climax. It's above-average for what it is. Once you've seen most of these 1979-1991 slashers (and I own most of them), this one is among the majority of them that are above-average and do deliver. It is formulaic and has no original bones in its skeleton, but is watchable and much better than some particular entries from this era of slashers.

If you two are still looking for it on DVD, try out Amazon. It was $50+ all last year (for a new copy), but one copy was finally available for $30 this month and it was well worth it. There might still be decent deals now.

That's an excellent summation of this film's strengths and weaknesses. Although I love horror films, slashers aren't really my genre because i find a lot of them monotonous, but this had enough to keep me interested.

I'm surprised DVDs of this film are selling for so much. I bought it on VHS for probably a buck. People seem to despise VHS these days, which is fine with me because I find so many interesting and rare films for a few bits.

It's true, it would be monotonous to watch several of these particlar slashers back to back. And once you've seen enough of them, like I have, you feel like you can watch them in your sleep. For me, the silly entries are the ones that disinterest me. It is the predictable and formulaic entries that know they're unoriginal but still give a damn and make an effort, that stick out. That would include "Rush Week." For a later entry, it isn't bad.

I'm sure this film and other similar films are so pricey on DVD because they're not easy to get your hands on. And hell, if VHS movies and VHS players were more available, I would gladly be getting more movies like this on that format. My VHS player lasted from 1999 to recent years, so I had to make the move to replace much of my VHS movies last year.

It's getting a blu-ray release soon.
