This movies needs to get out in the US

I bought this movie on a whim when people over there in Mexico City said it was great. And it's sooooo true--

This is truly one of Mexico greatest cinima pieces along with Callejon de los Milagros. The DVD is full screen (only... sadly, but forgiveable) but it works in region one.

If you can understand Spanish, then get it. I am so sad that there isn't an English sub option for English only speaking people can use...

I was so sad and furious when this movie ended.
I hope that this movie will get out more because its rather censored in Mexico... people, as far as I understand, only see it censored on TV.

Did you buy the censored or uncensored film? I was told by a friend to watch the movie, he said that very last scene (where the little boy comes out of the apartment complex to the street and sees bodies all over the ground) is not shown when the movie airs in Mexican networks. I rented the DVD here in the US throught Blockbuster thinking it might not be censored and it was. I still would like to see that very last scene of the movie and that's why I would like to know if your DVD includes that scene. Also, did you buy an original or a bootleg copy? I'm going to Mexico pretty soon and would like to know if the uncensored film is available somewhere. Thanks.

The DVD released n México is not censored. So don't worry about it, although as the thread starter said, the quality of the DVD is subpar with the quality of this great movie.

"Rojo amanecer" is a wonderful companion piece to "El grito", the definitive documentary about the massacre of Tlatelolco. Shot by film students from UNAM who where capturing the events as they happened.
Now finally "El grito" it's available on DVD but sadly sans-subtitles. So those who can't understand spanish wouldn't be able to follow everything, although you don't neeed to know spanish to understand the scenes of police brutality, repression and massacre.

If I am not wrong Alfonso Cuarón it's preparing a new film about the events of 1968. The title of this project is "Mexico 68" (albeit I think it will be changed on time), it's planned to be premiered in 2009.

Knowing the talent of Cuarón (Jorge Fons it's also a great filmmaker but IMO Cuarón is even better) and counting with a much bigger budget and total freedom (Which Jorge Fons didn't have), it's easy to expect a great movie based on the events of 1968.

so rent or buy "El grito" and then watch again "Rojo amanecer" and expect for Cuarón's movie within 1 year.

cheers.

The Cuaron movie has been cancelled, he's doing another film about Mexico in the 1970s.
