Not sure about the low budget but who says you need a bazillion dollars to make a good movie? that's the problem with movie3a today, back then you could make a movie on a lower budget and be a blockbuster today there is no inbetween.

I do think the demand for 'tent pole' features and their exorbitant budgets has gone insane but at the same time this is a bit of a misconception I think.

Certainly there is much less of a market for smaller films now and budgets on big features seem unimaginably huge but the fact is that of the top 20 most successful/profitable films ever made in terms of return on investment 12 of them are from the last decade.

Admittedly, ALOT of those are within the horror genre, which can generally get away with lower budgets and production values (passing it off as a stylistic choice) but you also have another three from that list that are very different from each other in terms of genre and target demographic, and did very big business on a low budget(much lower than Road House when its adjusted for inflation):

The Kings Speech (2010) Budget: $15 Million_Box Office: $414 Million;
Magic Mike (2012) Budget $7 Million_Box Office $167.2 Million;
The Fault in our Stars (2014), Budget $14 Million_Box Office $307.2 Million

I think Road House was A Grad in its day, it's just aged badly and now seems super cheesy. Plus it certainly wasn't low budget. But it is brilliant and I do love it.

The same thing could be said about the film that Road House is a remake of...
