Gay Interest

Under keywords you use the term "gay interest". Why? I saw no gay interest or interaction, discussion or sex. Can two adolescent males build a friendship, attend the same school, go hiking, collect coins, visit each others house or just hang out without being called (in this case by you) "gay". Did I only see an edited version of this film? Were there porno scenes of wild gay sex I missed either between Konrad and Hans or with other anti Semites at the gymnasium. Did I miss a forced gang rape scene. Hans had an attraction for Konrad like following him but that was more due to his being a Count and a celebrity at the school. At least to me. I never saw Hans as wanting to drop to his knees and service the handsome Count. There was no scene of Konradin pulling his trousers down and his shirt up. Or did I miss that?

"Gay Interest" what is the definition of that definition. Am I wrong? Is it since there are two young men developing a tight bond of friendship it might stimulate the "Gay Interest" of some viewer? Or is it attraction of any kind of a male to another male is "Gay Interest"? I admire Peyton Manning for his athletic skill and success. Am I gay? Do I have "Gay Interest" in him? If "Gay Interest" is only the attraction or friendship or admiration of another man isn't every man gay? If you admire the shirt a friend has on, is that gay? If you want to be friends with someone, is that gay? I hate to ask this question. If you become friends with a gay man or worse want to become friends with a gay man, is that gay? By those definitions I am gay. But only the most self centered, unfriendly, hateful people I have ever known would not be gay.

It seems to me there is a pretty sad response here to the use of 'gay interest'. The Jewish boy who is ashamed of his father is somewhat in awe of the extremely handsome Count. (Only a matter of class? I think not.)
The story is very much that of an ill-fated gay love affair. Apparently everything has to be shown to be obvious to some people.

Too bad as well that the musical score was so poor. Why is a mystery to me. Tuba? blasts was exactly what this film did not need. It needed a lot of dramatic music..e.g
Mahler..or Wagner.

However, if you look up Fred Uhlman who wrote the book "Reunion" on Wikipedia you will find some interesting information that may be relevant or not. Depends on how much you want to connect the book with the film. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reunion_(novella)

I disagree, inasmuch as I don't think it's intended to be the story of an ill-fated gay love affair. I agree very much with the earlier poster who noted that tagging the film as a gay interest is more a symptom of today's identity politics. There's no eroticism about it.
