Did her character die? I thought the shot was to the shoulder, then next thing you see her neck is bloody. No one even mentions her after she is shot making it seem that her character served no purpose to the movie in the first place.

I don't think they had product placements in eighties movies. At least not deliberate ones.
Jami Gertz's character and her fate in the movie served as a plot contrivance to create a stronger bond between the cop and the Indian.
