Does this film whitewash anti-Communist war criminals and dictators?

Sure, in Africa back in the 1980's the Soviets and Cubans were propping up bad guys like Mengistu Haile Mariam in Ethiopia and Jose Eduardo dos Santos in Angola. However, the West gave military aid to Mengistu and dos Santos' adversaries, such as Holden Roberto in Angola and Issias Afewerki in Eritrea, the former of whom used child soldiers while the latter has founded one of the most repressive regimes since his country's independence in 1993. Are there any rebel leaders in Africa supported by the West I've forgotten who did live up to this heroic myth? (My knowledge of African history is very limited)

You would rather it whitewash pro-Communist war criminals and dictators? Like half of Hollywood already does?

Are there examples that Hollywood does this? Seriously, imagine if Hollywood tried to make Mengistu out to have been a hero!

reply

Yes of course - every sycophantic movie ever made about Mandela.

reply

Oh look, someone's nostalgic for apartheid.
