One thing which would have improved the film for me... (Spoilers)

As pointed out on Brandon's Cult Movie Reviews, the big problem with the film is that they tease a fight between Dolph Lundgren and Brion James, but they don't deliver on it. In another topic, it was suggested that this might have come about because of the production temporarily being shut down. As it stands, Brion James has four scenes:

James arrests Lundgren.
Lundgren knocks James out and escapes.
James rearrests Lundgren.
James gets yelled at by his superior officer and disappears.

I just watched the last two scenes with Brion James and you could easily cut them out of the film without them disrupting the story. If you take them out, the rivalry between them is complete. Instead of teasing Brion James as the main villain of the film, he's demoted to foil. He arrests Lundgren. Lundgren knocks him out while escaping. The evil Communist general is the main bad guy, not Brion James.

I'd still have the clip of the jeep driving up to the unconscious Lundgren, but I'd cut it out before Brion James could be seen getting out of it. The scene where James gets yelled at adds nothing to the film regardless.

That would have let me enjoy the film for what it is instead of begrudging it for what it could have been.

Even the early draft of the script I own doesn't allude that any fight between the Lundgren and James characters was considered.
