Anybody know where I can find a copy of the soundtrack for this movie? The music throughout it is so awesome.
I checked eBay, Amazon.com and I googled it. Not even a hint. I figured it's most likely out of print, but it's like the soundtrack was never released.
I used to have it on casette in the late 80s, but my stereo chewed it up about ten years ago. I haven't seen it since, but it was definitely released in one format or another
Willy DeVille's "Assasin of Love, Simon Harris/Lonnie Gordon's "I've Got Your Pleasure Control", Shakespeares Sister's "Electric Moon" and "You Made Me", Jool Holland's "We're Through", John Martyn's "Head and Heart", Michelle Shocked's "Graffiti Limbo"...
While the film is good in parts but at the same time I don't think the film was as good as the book, one thing that the film does well is its use of music. The above songs were all fabulous
It's really weird. I can't seem to find any information on the soundtrack release. Since it was 1989 you think there'd definitely would have been a CD release in addition to cassette. And if wikipedia is to be believed - that it was quite popular in the UK - then you'd definitely think there would have been a significant amount of soundtracks manufactured and one would be able to find it.
re: the Michelle Shocked song - that song is so low in the mix (I believe it is played when Charles is talking to his uncle) that you can really only hear it if you put your ears up to the left speaker (with my setup anyway).
Anyone know offhand when the other Shakespear's Sister song, You Made Me, plays in the film?
Do you have any theories as to why the soundtrack seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth? I haven't even found a listing of it online or review or anything. Very strange...
Well, the end credits of the film on my VHS copy of the film state that the original soundtrack "is available from Virgin Records", but TBH the soundtrack cassette I had wasn't an original Virgin label one, it was a recorded "blank tape" copy that a school friend of mine at the time did for me, I lost contact with him some years back so I have no idea where he recorded it from.
I wouldn't always rely on Wikipedia as a source of reference though, especially if the claims about popularity are uncited!
maybe they just tracked down all the various CD's of all the artists and made their own?
maybe the studio included the soundtrack listing at the end of the credits thinking it'd do well at the box office, but when it didn't, they decided not to manufacture any?
and you are right, there is no documentation of the stuff written on the wiki page. why someone would make that up about a pretty obscure film though, i don't know.
maybe going by film composer is a route to try. i'll see if i can find who it was and then try to track down any info that way.
i don't know if the director has a website or e-mail to contact either.
