Because, in most horror movies, the cool or more entertaining characters die.

I always ask myself the same question when watching this film. The most heart-breaking part is that she fights for so long and hard to stay alive, and just when you think she might've actually made it, she gets it. Just when she's about to get it, I want to scream, "Look out, sexy fortune teller lady!" - but alas, she never hears me. :-(
