At the end when the puppets are killing Neil in the elevator, the two of them are trying like hell to get in and stop them. But why? He killed their friends, was trying to kill them why was they trying to save him?

He was a psycho though, their definitely would have been more killing if he had lived. Dude murdered their friends and would have definitely murdered them had the puppets not got him.

They probably would've preferred he be subdued or trapped. Megan obviously doesn't want to witness this murder, and Alex may even be against it because Neil discovered Toulon's secret of life, which he was helping Neil with.

Alex wanted to stop both the puppets and Neil after he saw the puppets attack Neil. He figured he could capture the puppets and Neil was injured. Alex had the power of precognition and wasn't interested in living forever. Megan was the one who ended up learning the secret.
