Well this movie was made over 15 years ago, that could have been his real hair.

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men. - Anon.

Watch it again. It was a definate wig. No Native would have their hair that nappy.

Gary Farmer is great in this film, as he is in "Dead Man" and "Renegades." His soulfulness takes my heart away. I love it when he talks about his war pony.

... I admire a person that's willing to do whatever is necessary.

"My pony threw me!" We always use that line when something goes wrong. I agree that Gary Farmer is very talented. His one-liners in "Dead Man" are priceless.

I've always wanted to be a June Bride...

Yes, it was a wig.
You guys should read the book. You'll love it. And the sequel: Sweet Medicine. I wish George Harrison and Handmade Films were still alive, maybe there would be a chance that the sequel could be made into a film.
"Keep your pony out of my garden" - That's my favorite quote.

reply

Agreed. A Martinez is easy on the eye but Gary Farmer's characters are so memorable. I even loved his few moments in "Renegades."

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

reply

Yeah, that was a wig, as is Adam (Oh, babybabybaby) Beach's at the end of Smoke Signals. BAD wigs, too. At first, I wondered what an ex-Beatle would know about Native Americans. Then I ended up renting it so many times, I finally bought my own copy!!!!! Now if I could find a decent copy of "Clearcut"....
Though I notice quite a few of the Indians are actually Hispanic. Geoff Rivas, who seems to always play a d!ck! "We're on your side, Mr. Redbow..." Gawd, I wanna beat the livin' tar outta him! Smarmy little $%*@&%$(*!!!!! He was a jerk in La Bamba, too. Anyway, the name Buddy RedBow is the name of a Native musical artist who is no longer with us. I have his first effort on LP, and the second on cassette and CD...WONDERFUL (Well, I'm not fond of the first one, too country for me). Buddy RedBow also had a cameo in Thunderheart, at the pow wow when LeVoy looks back to find the rezcop gone, there's a cluster of AIM dudes in berets, including Dennis Banks...RedBow is on the right.

Not sure if you were referring to A. Martinez (Buddy), but he is half Native (Apache and Blackfoot). His paternal grandfather was Mexican, hence the Spanish name. Last names don't always properly denote heritage. Robert DeNiro is actually only a quarter Italian, yet everyone assumes he's full on ginzo. Fred Ward is half Cherokee but no one seems to know he is Native despite him having played a number of Native characters.

The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.
